Just Checking

I just kept my kids up way past their bedtime so we could see bats. This counts as "good parenting," right?

Right?

These are vampire bats that Bentley drew free-hand and cut out. He's never really colored much until this week, and all of a sudden he loves it!
As a devoted doodler, I think this shows a certain amount of artistic promise
, for just starting out!

We dragged two of our kids out in the middle of the night (like 3AM) to see an eclipse (or whatever that was) in freezing temperatures.

Uh, yeah, absolutely! Better than the time we kept Gareth up way past his bedtime just because we were enjoying socializing... :) (He does pretty well staying up until 11:30, provided he has a couple of 12 yr old boys to entertain him!)

Absolutely! I think staying up late once in a while is good for kids, especially if it's something cool like bats!

Speaking of bats, I just started "Dracula" yesterday. Have you read it? I'm only about 30 pages in so far, but it's definitely a good read!

He actually draws way better than I ever could. I'm impressed.

Loved the book Dracula, is response to *I think* your sister's comment.

I love bats! I was going to say that getting your kids up to see/do cool things will be special memories, so then i tried to think of one of mine, when my parents did that. Though i'm sure there are some, the only one i can remember right now is getting woken up at like 4:30 to go play golf--real golf. Fail. Don't do that. Bad parenting.

I still remember getting up really late at night with my mom + cousins to see sea turtles coming in from the ocean to lay eggs. It was super cool! :) Also the fellow who showed them to us was named "Kermit" which made it memorable too. :)

So, does this mean you have a budding naturalist on your hands...? :)

The citizen science website I've been working with has lots of projects that even kids can participate in (looking for certain animals or bugs outdoors), if you're interested in encouraging this sort of thing. ;)
